Overview of Services

The Center for Advanced Microscopy, a Nikon Center of Excellence, at UTHealth provides state-of-the-art imaging capabilities as well as expertise to those within UT Health and the Texas Medical Center who have a need for cutting-edge imaging technology. The instruments housed in the Center, as well as the expert individuals who stand ready to provide training, are available to provide access to vital imaging systems for the purpose of molecular, cellular, tissue, and whole animal imaging.

  • Nikon N-STORM + TIRF: Super-resolution stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM) with total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF)
  • Nikon N-SIM: super-resolution structured illumination capable of imaging in 2D, 3D, and TIRF-SIM
  • Nikon A1R Confocal Laser Microscope System:  confocal microscope with resonant and spectral detectors 
  • Nikon A1 Confocal Laser Microscope System + PicoQuant: confocal microscope with an additional platform for assessing fluorescence lifetime
  • IVIS Lumina XR: live whole animal imaging of longitudinal fluorescence, bioluminescence, and X-ray in vivo and ex vivo
  • Lambert Fluorescence Lifetime and Nikon Calcium Rig Microscopy System: fluorescence lifetime and  imaging of small molecules in living cells
  • IMM-AX R Confocal Laser Microscope System: new generation confocal microscope with resonant and spectral detectors 
  • Data Processing Computers: contains NIS-Elements AR, LI-FLIM, Living Image, MetaMorph, SlideBook, SoftMaxPro, AutoQuant
